While studying at the University of Tuzla, Adnan started his Internship with Bicom Systems in January 2018. Instead of starting back to school in September, Adnan has joined our team as an official full-time employee!

Adnan will be case lucky number 7 for our ‘From Intern to Employee’ blog series. Keep reading to learn how the transition is going, what challenges he had to overcome and his advice for people contemplating internships.

Software Engineer in Telecommunications

Tell me a bit about yourself!

“Hi my name is Adnan Dizdarević, I am 23 years old, and I am an Associate Software Engineer at Bicom Systems. I am currently a part of the gloCOM team and transitioned from an Intern to an Employee on September 1st. I enjoy playing football, watching TV, sports and listening to music.”

Why did you choose to do an Internship at Bicom Systems?

“One of my professors recommended Bicom Systems to me! After my first interview, it was clear to me that I wanted to work here. The people here create an extraordinary atmosphere, and everyone has a chance to grow and hone their skills.”

I know it is still new, but how has your transition from Intern to Employee been?

“When I first started as an intern, my tasks were small learning projects until I got familiar with the technologies and techniques that my team uses. After a while, I started working on real larger-scale projects! I am still working on them now as an employee, so it is pretty much the same.”

What challenges have you overcome during this transition?

“Well, in the beginning, a lot of stuff was new to me. I was familiar with them because we learned them at the university, but I never got to use them in the real world! But whenever I would hit a brick wall, I had wonderful mentors and colleagues who always had time to help me overcome the obstacles.”

That is great! How do you want to improve yourself in the next year?
“I wish to explore as many fields as possible. There is a lot of new stuff to learn, and I am excited to see what is to come.”

Internships with Telecommunications Company

Do you have any hobbies?

“I guess I’m still searching for a hobby. In the past, I’ve tried stuff like building model houses, playing guitar and learning new languages, but none of them grew on me. But if I had to say, I love to snorkel, and I love music. I do almost everything while listening to music.”

Tell me what a typical day looks like for you?

“First, I make a coffee (I tried avoiding coffee, but that didn’t go so well). I am a part of the gloCOM team, so I spend most of my day working on projects related to that product. Occasionally, we will have meetings to discuss our next steps, but aside from work, I am usually chatting with my colleagues. A topic that always comes up is ‘where are we going to lunch’ haha.”

What excites you the most about the technologies that we use at Bicom Systems?

“I would say our communications technology. They are always growing, and there is always something new to do! I finally have a chance to use my skills to solve real-life problems.”

Outside of work, what do you like to do?

I love hanging out with my girlfriend! We work similar hours, so after work, we often go out and do different things. On Fridays, I play football with my colleagues, but other than that, hanging out with friends and watching shows like Game of Thrones. As an intern, I spent most of my free time studying. Thankfully, that is about to change!”

What would be your advice to people thinking of applying for an internship?

“I think it is a great idea! It will not slow down your progress for graduating, and it will boost your knowledge. I would say an internship is a huge step in the right direction, and every student should do it!”
