Bicom Systems is announcing the planned End of Life for PBXware v7, aligned with the upstream End of Life of Asterisk 18. This blog covers everything partners need to know about timelines, what’s included in Maintenance Mode, and how to prepare for the transition to PBXware v8.

PBXware v7 is built on Asterisk 18, which reached its official End of Life on October 21, 2025. This means no further security patches, bug fixes, or upstream maintenance are available for that core engine.

Continuing to develop major functionality on an EOL foundation is not sustainable from a security and compliance standpoint. PBXware v8 addresses this with a modernized architecture aligned to a fully supported Asterisk release.

There is no forced or immediate upgrade requirement. Existing PBXware v7 deployments will continue to be fully supported until the end of 2027, giving partners ample time to plan and execute a smooth migration to PBXware v8.

From the release of PBXware v8 through December 31, 2027, PBXware v7 will operate in Maintenance Mode, which includes:

  • Bug fixes
  • Security related updates (where applicable)
  • Minor enhancements (e.g. phone integrations)
  • Stability and reliability fixes

Important: No new major features or platform innovations will be introduced in PBXware v7 during this period.

No. gloCOM Desktop v7 is not affected by this announcement and continues without any defined End of Sale or End of Life timeline. Any future changes to gloCOM Desktop v7 will be communicated separately.

As early as possible. While support continues through December 2027, early planning ensures a smooth transition and allows partners to take full advantage of the new features and improved architecture in PBXware v8. Bicom Systems encourages partners to begin migration conversations now.

Upgrading to PBXware v8 provides:

  • Enhanced security and long-term platform support
  • Improved performance and stability
  • Access to new features and modern architecture
  • Better compatibility with future integrations and technologies

Yes. Bicom Systems is available to support partners throughout the transition, including:

  • Migration planning

  • Roadmap discussions

Reach out to your account manager to get started.

After this date, PBXware v7 will no longer receive updates or support of any kind, including security patches. Continuing to operate v7 beyond this point may expose systems to security and compliance risks. Partners are strongly encouraged to complete migration to PBXware v8 well in advance of this date.

Partners can reach out directly to their Bicom Systems account manager or contact the support team for detailed migration guidance, timelines, and technical assistance.
