Meet Mirsad Ribic! Mirsad is one of the Software Developers on our PBXware team. He graduated from the University of Tuzla and on August 1st, 2019 celebrated his one-year work anniversary with Bicom Systems! (Woo-hoo!)

Keep reading to find out why Mirsad chose telecommunications, his take on the Game of Thrones finale and what websites he recommends for developers.

How did you hear about the internships offered at Bicom Systems?

“A professor at the university recommended Bicom Systems to me. I was really excited to work here because I heard so many good things about the company from other interns and students.”

What do you like best about working at Bicom Systems?

“The best thing about working for Bicom Systems is that as long as you do your job, you do not feel any pressure while at work! Also, the people here are amazing, and I really love working with them.”

What do you like doing in your spare time outside of work?

“Outside of work I enjoy playing football! (I think you call it soccer?) But if I am not playing football, I usually go out with friends, watch some movies or play video games. On my more productive days, I look up stuff that I might need at work. Google is a gold mine for the curious ones.”

Do you have any favorite industry websites you like to look stuff on?

“Personally, I would recommend everyone to check out Hacker News and SitePoint. Both websites are very informative for beginner and senior-level developers.”

What excites you the most about the technologies we use?

“The most exciting thing about the technologies we use is that almost all were new to me. Every day I learn something new. I keep improving and that is what keeps me going!”

What are you currently binge-watching?

“After the Game of Thrones finale (which was horrible by the way), I haven’t started a new series. I do want to start Chernobyl though!”

Now that we heard your take on the GOT finale, why did you choose the telecommunications industry?

“In today’s world, communication is a big part of everyone’s life! The telecommunications sector is growing very fast and has huge opportunities. It relies on network engineers, software developers, database administrators/analysts/developers as well as people in billing and operations, support and more! Even in our daily lives, we can hardly think about remaining disconnected from the rest of the world.”

Tell me about your journey from Intern to Employee.

“I remember being very nervous when I was going to the first interview. But the people who interviewed me were very nice and talkative, so the nervousness quickly disappeared. After my second interview, they hired me as an intern, and I started on November 1st, 2016!”

“While I was still in school, I worked two days a week. During that time, I got to learn so much! Not only about programming but also about work ethics, organization, and leadership. Being an intern really opened my eyes, and I was very happy with what I saw.”

“Two years later I graduated university and in August 2018, I finally became an official Bicom Systems employee.”

It sounds like you had a really good experience! What would you say to future interns or people thinking of applying for an internship?

“Do not give up! Learn a lot and improve. It may be hard and confusing at first, but once you get a grip, you will have a lot of fun!”
