Our greatest insights are brought to you with heartfelt devotion. We hope you’ll enjoy your read!

If you have been following along with our ‘From Intern to Employee’ blog series, then you have had the chance to meet some of our amazing employees! We wrapped up the series (for now) with Mirsad, Case #5. However, as the series was ending, I stumbled upon another employee’s story that I wanted to share.

Meet Sadžida Balić! Although she is still a student, instead of starting as an Intern, Sadžida jumped on the Bicom Systems team as a part-time employee. She was originally hired to work on the campaign for our first Hackathon event. Now, Sadžida is a full-time employee on our Marketing team!

If you’re interested in learning more about the work Sadžida did with MUNJA, how she juggles her busy schedule and the advice she has for future employees, keep reading!

Tell me about yourself!

“Hi, I am Sadžida Balić! I am still a student at the University of Sarajevo, working towards my degree in Journalism and Public Relations. There is one year left of my program and I work full-time as a Marketing Assistant. I like traveling, writing and I am obsessed with books! (Still waiting for my Hogwarts letter haha). Really anything to do with the written word I enjoy.”

A full-time student and full-time employee? Wow, you must be busy! How is that?

Before working at Bicom Systems, I used to work for one of the largest non-profits in Bosnia, the ‘Social Innovation Incubator – MUNJA.’ Also, as an educator at the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, the “Pod lupom”. So, I am used to having many responsibilities and studying at the same time, I like to stay busy and the chaos may look impossible, but thanks to the help from family and friends, I got it!”

Why Bicom Systems?

“I actually never thought of myself working in the IT industry! Although Bicom Systems was unplanned, I really enjoyed working on the Hackathon and learned a lot. Marketing is needed in every business, so I am thrilled to be here. My coworkers are so amazing, and some are literal geniuses.”

What did you do for the Hackathon?

“At my previous job, one of my responsibilities was event planning. I love that feeling when everything gets finished on time. I like to make sure everything is perfect! When I worked on the Hackathon, I was responsible for the whole marketing campaign! I sourced TV hosts to promote the event, ran a social media campaign, planned the event and so much more. I wore many hats for that event and couldn’t have done it without my amazing team.”

Impressive! It sounds like you have an interesting background. What is your dream job?

“I believe I am doing my dream job right now! I am working in an international company, with amazing coworkers and have career development opportunities!”

That is amazing! Tell me what a typical day looks like for you.

“Well, I still have a lot to learn, so I arrange my schedule to keep up with as many marketing conferences as I can. For those of you who don’t know, Bicom Systems is a worldwide company, with most of its Marketing team based in Canada. I work in one of our offices in Bosnia, so with the time difference, my mornings are the busiest!”

“In the run of a day, I manage our Bosnia social media accounts, work directly with our Marketing Manager and right now I am organizing our 2019 Hackathon!”

Do you miss writing at all?

“Honestly, I do. My interest in marketing is taking over, but I still grab some time for freelance writing.”

What is your favorite quote?

“Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine.”

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?

“I learned hard work pays off and that believing in yourself matters the most! You should never compare yourself to others because your journey is your journey. I know I sometimes lack discipline, but in the end, I always finish what I imagined. It is important to set goals and crush ‘em!”

Finally, do you have any advice for people thinking of applying to Bicom Systems?

“The Bicom Systems team is growing very fast! It is no secret that the future is in Information Technology. Our products are being used all over the globe and I would encourage people to apply for our opening positions. Especially women! I am so glad to see more females joining the company and the overall industry. #WomenInTechnology.”
